Expect to find more of his famous spinach salad creations as well as his mashed yams, and
broccoli cheese soup.

He always has our OPG romaine lettuce for his salads, and this week ask for his fresh herb infused dressings.  He'll have organic basil, parsley and thyme on board to season up whatever he has on hand!

Greetings Tim!

For the remainder of this month, we will be focusing on heart-healthy foods to celebrate American Heart Month.  Oh, we'll still have all of our regular goodies, too, but we'll have some special deals on our produce pals that promote a healthy heart!  So this week I did my homework and looked up the healthy heart chart toppers... It goes something like this, they vary from source to source, but these are the most recommended.  I bold-faced the items we have at the fsarmstand when available, most of these are here this week:

salmon
olive oil
apples
almonds
green leafy vegetables
tomatoes
flax seed
black or kidney beans
tuna
brown rice
red bell peppers (price doubled this week, but we have the mini mixed vasriety)
asparagus
oranges
cantalope (out of season, you don't want the conventional ones out of Chile, very toxic!)
papaya
dark chocolate

Now here's something I thought was really informative.  I went to the website of the American heart Assoc. and found a list of the TOP TEN THINGS YOU CAN DO TO IMPROVE YOUR HEART HEALTH:

1. Know and limit your fats.
2. Choose lean meats and poultry w/o skin and prepare
w/o added saturated and trans fats.
3. Eat at least 2 servings of fish each week.
4. Select fat-tree, 1%, and low fat dairy products.
5. Cut back or eliminate trans fats and hydrogenated veg. oils.
6. Decrease foods high in dietary cholesterol.
7. Decrease foods and beverages with added sugar.
8. Choose and prepare foods with little or no salt.
9. Increase fiber and oat bran.
10. Read labels!

Well that should be enough to get you all started, if you're not on board already!

PRODUCE IN THE NEWS...

In case you missed them, we now have a whole new line of dried fruits form Earthbound Farms that come in handy little reclosable snack bags!  Oh so yummy and great for a healthy treat, we have dried dates, mangoes, and plums (that's a more appetizing way to refer to "prunes", hey, whatever it takes, eh?)  We're going to stick with our favorite Franny's raisins and Grateful Harvest label dried cranberries, though.  Another one you won't want to miss is this great new harvest of fresh, yummy, red-ripe STRAWBERRIES.  That's right, we actually scored on some beautiful AND tasty strawberries in the winter.  Now that does not happen very often on the organic market... at least not at these prices!

Back from a long time on the bench, since the weather has warmed up, I ordered a case of
SoNu Vitamin Water to quench our thirst along with our favorite Steaz Green Teas.
Another one back from a time out (due to high prices, I thought it may have been gold plated or something for a while!) expect to find some lacinato kale.  This one is kind of like romaine lettuce in shape and texture, but it is heart-healthy KALE!  Great for our kale chip recipe.
                                                                                          kale chips
I also brought back the whole wheat lavash wraps so you can wrap it all up nice.
Then just because it's heart month I'll have those raw organic almonds.  They go back off the list from March until December, so time to stock up!

Conditions have improved in the lettuce fields, this week we'll feature a red leaf to accompany our romaine which is still on special.  I went with the premium Cal-Organic Farms crop for top quality and larger sizing.

Our local citrus season is in full swing now expect to find a great deal on lemons, pink grapefruit and oranges.  Thank you Angie and Evelyn!  While not certified organic, they're guaranteed not to have any chemicals or pesticide exposure.

Oh, here's another tasty news tidbit... the fuerte avocado grower finally decided to drop his prices so we will have some awesome large 48ct size fuerte avos for a smokin deal at only $1.25.  i don't think this ever happened before!  Yeah, our reps told him to lower the price or keep them... I guess one can only eat so much guac before they bust out at the seams!  Next to the bacon avocados, the fuerte is my fav.
avoON SPECIAL THIS WEEK:
