Greetings Tim!
Already it's the last week of February, hard to believe, isn't it? They say time flies when you're having fun... also when you get older! Well, I like to think of it as "more experienced." That sounds better! However you look at it, this is the last week we'll focus on our heart health... but let's not forget all we have learned, eh? By the way, how is everyone doing on those New Year resolutions? We don't want to forget about those either. I wrote a little something about New Year resolutions... stay tuned, it's with the editor.
This week I tried to eat as many of those items on the "foods for the healthy heart list" as I could. I'm still breathing! Just a reminder, we have MOST of these foods at the farmstand, but not all are available this time of year. Like cantalope... yeah, you can get it on the conventional market form Chile, but eewwww... it's loaded with toxic pesticides that go unchecked. You don't want to eat ANYTHING from Chile unless it is certified organic by the USDA, then you know it is safe.
Jeannine and I have been toying with ideas for more heart-healthy recipes and today she hit the jackpot when she came over with her Madagascar Inspired Greens! It is the official "Recipe of the Week" and you can find it on that quick link to the left. We are fine tuning our OPG cookbook and should be ready to go to print within the next 30-60 days. Now is the time to send us any healthy recipes if you wish to be included, we'd love to have you in our kitchens!
For more heart healthy recipes check out this website
Finally, remember, it's not just the food you eat, but your whole lifestyle that affects your health and heart. Finding and maintaining balance is key... with exercise, nutrition, and that whole body/mind/spirit thing. That's why, alongside the cookbook, I'm writing "Nutrition For Your Soul." You can get a sneak peak on that tab of our website... I keep it separate, but you may open what I refer to as the "pantry of my heart" if you wish. With that in mind, this morning I looked up some little sayings (in that favorite book of mine again) about the heart. Here goes...
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart and good news gives health to the bones.
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.
Seems to me, the condition of your heart affects your health from the inside out... I wrote about that one, too.

| PRODUCE IN THE NEWS...
In case you missed them (we sold 40lbs in less than two hours, sorry!) we ordered twice as many of those delicious jersey sweet potatoes so everybody should be able to get some!
Back to the plate after a time out expect to find some green cabbage, rainbow chard (one of those healthy heart things), fresh thyme, Russian Banana Fingerling Potatoes, russett potatoes at super low price, crunchy mixed bean sprouts (makes a great snack), blueberries at a berry good price for this time of year, and as requested, we ordered some
sweet yellow onions. They should be real nice for carmelizing in any of your creations. Oh, and last but not least, we brought back the delicious pecan rolled dates for a tasty treat.
I ordered whole wheat lavash wraps last week, but they came in too late to make our truck, but they'll be on board this week.
This is the last time we plan to have our raw organic almonds in the house for a while, so don't miss out! Yeah, they're pricey, but so is a slice of cheesecake, eh? LOL
