Greetings Tim!
It's warming up now here in Havasu and we have some cool crops for you to beat the heat! There's nothing like a fresh vegetable or fruit salad served up this time of year to keep you healthy and fit... especially since we are promoting FAMILY WELLNESS MONTH, striving for communities to emphasize healthy family lifestyles and habits!
Remember, the healthier each family is overall, the healthier we can all be as a whole. What a perfect time to prepare activities and the kitchen for when the kids are out of school over the summer!
Let me know if you have any family wellness ideas to share and they may be in the next OPG News issue!
Last week a listener called in and suggested family exercise and recreation time. What a great point! Exercise is a key factor contributing to overall good health and great way to spend time with the family, even if you coach!
Take a walk with a family member or go for a swim. Treading water or dog paddling around gets your heart rate going, too, without messing up your hair! And don't forget your dog needs exercise, too.
Dogs can be such good role models... always happy to see you when you get home (just try it once, act as excited as your dog when a family member comes in the door), eat whatever food they're given without complaint, love unconditionally, and they're zen gurus of relaxation!
Yes, another tip this week (besides studying canine behavior) is to take a break! You don't have to do it all, at least not all of the time and not long term. Chronic, stressful overworking has bad health consequences! I heard someone say that it's a pride issue when a person will not delegate or allow others to help. Take a short break a couple times each day, close your eyes, clear your thoughts, and take in some deep, cleansing, relaxing breaths (but not while driving, ok?). It's really good for you and you'll get more mileage, really!
We have a special spiritual health opportunity this Tuesday as our Produce Pal Durmond Blatnik presents:
An Evening with Kalamity Falls live at Grace Arts. Join us for a fun and humor filled evening of family entertainment for the child in all of us. Come and see the Story come alive before your very eyes. Meet the characters and leave with a life-changing message.
WHERE: Grace Arts 2146 McCulloch Blvd.
WHEN: 7pm Tuesday May 25
To help promote nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle, I'm on the air Thursday mornings from 8-10:00am at ALIVE FM with Tracy Yohe, morning show host.
Tune in to 95.9 on your FM radio. We'll have some fun as we discuss the importance of being a good steward of our bodies and listen to some upbeat music.
Call us and say, "Hi!" it would be awesome to hear from you! We ALWAYS give out prizes, too... 1-866-999-5934
This week, call in with your idea to promote Family Wellness!

Plans are also under way to get our "Kitchen Nutrition" program back on the air so you can actually see how it's done! But we need sponsors to cover production expenses. Your commercials become part of all programs and are subject to multiple air times on TV and internet.
Stay tuned for more updates... including our KIDS' SUMMER FOOD and EDUCATION PROGRAMS coming to a SCHOOL near you!
That's right, every child in LHC will have access to FREE LUNCH all summer long!
Get a head's up on our upcoming Healthy Kids Cooking Contest! Winners will get their recipes on next year's school lunch menu, amen!
We are looking for local businesses who wish to sponsor or donate products/prizes, etc. in return for ad space on our new SCHOOL LUNCH CALENDAR that will be seen by thousands of residents ALL YEAR LONG. This is a great cause!

| PRODUCE IN THE NEWS...
Well surprise surprise, Rhonda has more new stuff in store for you this week, but you'll just have to come on up the hill to check it out! I never knew our little farmstand could hold so much! Thanks to the Merrill family, we have many exciting new things to offer.
We really need your FEEDBACK on any new items in order to determine what will go on the shelves... and which products to cut! Once again, contact Rhonda for product comments or requests.
Headlining the news this week we have bunched beets coming back to the plate and they're even on special! One of my new favorite snacks is a handful of fresh raw diced beets. They're surprisingly sweet (having the highest sugar content of all vegetables) and super crunchy with a healthy dose of antioxidants to boost! Yeah, ever since I watched that video "FoodMatters" there's a lot less cooking and a lot more chopping going on around here.
Also returning to us this week are the bunched chives, Vidalia sweet onions (great for grilling), crunchy bean sprouts, and yellow Holland bell peppers. In the fruit department expect to see some red delicious apples, blackberries, and making their first appearance this season we've invited the apricot and black sweet cherries, ummmm... they will compliment any fruit bowl.
