ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Monica would like to assure all that have been victimized in the workplace and out that this is not permitted any longer in the United States. Sexual harassment was not recognized by law until the mid-1970s. It was only in 1980 that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission published a set of guidelines identifying harassment and hostile-environment harassment. Six years later, the Supreme Court ruled for the first time that sexual harassment constituted a violation of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Now, as courts extend the definition of sexual harassment and penalize companies with punitive damages, some companies are being forced to listen to women's demands for dignity in the workplace.

Monica is widowed and has an adult son. She quit school to pursue her employment, and did not realize until later how important education is in an individual's life.

She and her son enjoy oil painting together. She is presently pursuing her business career in management. She is an avid reader and encourages others (even against their will) to read as much as possible.
